They must be received prior to June 24 to be included in this fiscal year. Your PROMPT attention is very much appreciated.
Children’s Choir - August 11
All children ages 4 to 12 are invited to sing in the Houston North Children’s Choir on August 11. Parents, please fill in the sign-up sheet and pick up music from the information table. Our first practice will be held on June 30 after church services.
Church Duties - Huntsville - Sign Up Sheets
Two sign up sheets for the Huntsville UCG church are on the Information Table and will be available on only two Sabbaths - today and June 16. These sign up sheets are for duties for the next church calendar year (July 1, 2007 through June 30, 2008). One list is for bringing flowers and the other is for bringing a light snack for pre-church enjoyment. The more people that sign up, the fewer times each person will be responsible for this duty. So, pitch in and sign up if you are able to!
FOT: Housing / Pass Code for the Feast - June 3
Members may begin making hotel phone reservations for the Feast of Tabernacles beginning tomorrow at 10:00 am in the time zone of the site they are attending. Members attending Branson, Kerrville, and Steamboat Springs need to be aware of a new procedure for those sites. A pass code will be required for specific properties. See David Buchanan, Delmar Berger, or Jim Servidio for the list of properties and pass code. Although the pass code may seem like an inconvenience, the purpose is to prevent people from calling early or others booking up rooms reserved for the United Church of God. The pass code is only required on June 3. Those making reservations after June 3 will not need a pass code. All sites remain available for transfer except for Panama City Beach and Steamboat Springs. Anchorage has a few openings, but a special application is required. Ample housing bookings were made at each site so that all members will be able to find a suitable accommodation. Experience shows that those who wait a few days to make reservations or even wait through the summer nearly always find what they prefer. If you do have difficulty finding an appropriate accommodation, notify David Buchanan or Delmar Berger. You will be contacted in two or three days with personal assistance.
Ladies Luncheon - June 5
It’s time once again for the monthly luncheon. Please plan to attend on this Tuesday, June 5, 11:30 am at the home of Trish Marshall. Once again we will enjoy a salad lunch provided by the ladies with drinks and desserts provided by the hostess. If you need directions, please contact Trish (936-449-5920).
Annual White Water Ocoee Rafting Trip - August 5
The Cleveland congregation will be hosting the annual white water Ocoee rafting trip on Sunday, August 5 at 11:00 am. As in prior years the church will be utilizing the services of Ocoee Inn Rafting as outfitters for the trip. Participants must be at least 12 years old (Tennessee law) and in good health. Those with bad backs or other similar injuries should not participate due to the strenuous and jarring nature of the activity. Due to the inherent risky activity, all participants must sign a liability waiver. Those under 18 will need a parent or legal guardian’s signature before they can participate. We have reserved a block of rafting spots. In order to guarantee that you have a seat please send in a signed liability waiver and a check payable to the United Church of God, Cleveland for $25.00 per person to the address below.
Houston Music Festival - 2007 - September 2
The Third Annual UCG Houston Music Festival will be held on Sunday, September 2, 2007, Labor Day Weekend, at Broze Hall. Last year 300 people including 45 musicians enjoyed a full day of rock, folk, country and blues music while visiting and relaxing. Attendance grew by 33% last year, and this year we anticipate a larger crowd. We have made several changes this year including the addition of a second stage and a new canopy system.
Out of town musicians can use stage equipment provided by local musicians including a drum set, amplifiers, keyboards, congas, bongos, timbales, microphones and monitors; guitars may be available by special arrangement. Musicians interested in participating in the Houston Music Festival 2007 should contact David Buchanan by e-mail at BuchananEnvironmental [at] earthlink.net (please use Subject: Houston Music Festival to avoid deletion of your correspondence), or by telephone at 281-852-2438, no later than July 31. Musicians must be members or attending one of the Sabbath keeping churches of God - exceptions will be made for non-member musicians in a backup role. All musicians must conform to Church standards for dress, grooming and conduct.
For attendees who must avoid the sun, several canopies will be erected, but most will bring a chair or blanket and sit on the lawn. Local brethren will bring extra lawn chairs for visitors. Our concessions stand will sell food, drinks and snacks. Festival entry is free, however donations will be accepted to defray expenses; extra funds will be donated to the United Church of God. The starting time will be announced at a later date. Hotel accommodations may be found in Humble, Texas approximately 5 minutes from the church building. There will be no rain-out- in the event of rain, performances will be held in the building auditorium.
