Council of Elders Report - From Clyde Kilough

The Council of Elders is at the beginning stages of a strategic planning process that will guide our priorities for the next several years. The Council believes that our dedicated members, elders and staff can provide critical input into the directions we should consider. To this end, we want to give all members, elders, and employees an opportunity to share their thoughts on broad strategic issues such as where we are, where we need to be and how we might get there.

To do so, we have crafted a confidential survey for the members, elders and employees of the United Church of God. The survey contains quantitative questions as well as questions which allow you to give written responses. Please be as frank, honest and constructive as you can. This is an opportunity for the Council of Elders to hear the members’, elders’ and staff’s best thinking about the directions we should consider taking.

We will be utilizing a Web-based survey to collect responses and collate data. All surveys must be completed on-line, which will reduce the time and expense of processing responses. You may access the survey by going to the members Website at http://members.ucg.org and click on the members survey link.

The deadline for completing the survey is January 6, 2008. It should take about 30 minutes to complete the survey, and we really hope you will invest the time to offer your input! Thank you in advance.

Youth Music Day - December 29

Our first Youth Music Day will take place on December 29, at which time the opening hymns will be accompanied by our teens, and special music will be given by one of our young people as well. All teens are asked to participate in singing the opening hymns, on stage, on this day. We will get together and go through the songs today and next Sabbath, and the young ladies will be learning a descant for one of the opening hymns.

Teen/Family Fun Show - February 9

Calling one and all! It’s time to begin preparing for the Houston North Family Fun Show. So far, all we’re missing are the families, the fun… and oh yeah, performers. So, all vocalists, actors, musicians, dancers, etc., who are interested in participating, please sign the list today so we can begin planning. All those who are interested in working behind the scenes are also encouraged to sign up, as there will be needs for stage crew, sound crew, creating props, publishing programs, etc. Practices will begin in January, so there is no time to waste.

The evening of February 9 will begin with a catered meal, which will then be followed by the show — all of which will be right here at Broze Hall. So mark your calendars now, and join us in this evening of food, fun and festivities.

13th Annual Presidents’ Weekend - February 15-17

You’re invited to the thirteenth annual Presidents’ Weekend Family Activity in Branson, Missouri February 15-17. The weekend is the highlight of the mid-winter for many Church Families, and promises to be better than ever this year. Last year we had about 350 in attendance and expect a like number again this year.

The weekend begins Friday evening with a large “Family Reunion” fellowship evening. On Sabbath we will again have a variety of seminars followed by Sabbath services featuring our guest speaker, Mr. Richard Thompson. Then we will have our evening meal, talent showcase and family dance to top off the evening. Sunday we will have more seminars and family activities ending with a game night for all those staying over Sunday evening.

This year we have moved the location to the Ramada Inn. The cost for each room will be $37.00 per night and will include a full breakfast for everyone in the room. You may begin to make hotel reservations by calling the Ramada Inn at 417-334-1000 and identifying yourself as part of the United Church of God Presidents’ Weekend activity. More information will be coming in a couple of weeks.
